PROPS:
- one single mother
- teenage children who understand said mother should practice what she preaches and not have sex
- an Early Pregnancy Test left on the bathroom countertop that the single mom "forgot" to throw out
SETTING: the family bathroom
I cackled the whole day I set this up and waited for my highschool-age kids Lisa and Brad, to get home. And then I continued to laugh to myself when they got home from school and went in the bathroom. I listened for gasps of shock, for heads klunking the floor as they fainted, but there was only an embarrassed silence as the bathroom door opened and they skulked to their rooms. They saw "the prop"--and they were speechless! It's true---I'm the worst mother in the world.
After a bit, I went in the bathroom and put the EPT in the garbage can, obviously trying to cover it up. (You don't have to actually use the testers, just have the empty box there, looking like you did use it).
Then I waited. We had supper, they did homework, the evening went on. I caught them whispering to each other once, looking very concerned.
About 10 o'clock I got in bed with a book to read. I'm there reading this good book, lovely golden lamp light pouring over my shoulder . . . I turn a page and listen to sounds of them getting ready for bed, the bathroom faucet running, doors opening and closing . . . it won't be long now.
A quiet knock on my bedroon door . . . it's my daughter, Lisa.
"Mom?" she says in a gentle voice. She enters and sits down on the bed alongside me, "Is there something you need to tell us?"
"Oh, Lisa!" I cry, "Did you see it?--in the bathroom?"
I cover my face with the blanket to compose myself. She can't tell my shoulders are shaking from laughter, not tears. I gasp, "Oh, Lisa, how can I tell you this?---APRIL FOOLS!"
Yep, she almost murdered me, but I'd do it all over again!
I hope this gives you a little grin today. Now, go start plotting for April 1!

Nice one. Your kids are lucky their mom has such a great sense of humor. :)
Hope to see you at Montrose. :)
