We hear so much about our economy, taxes, the financial cliff . . .
But God has an economy too.
I love what the late Barbara Johnson wrote from her own sufferings, about the exchanges God offers us. (from I'm So Glad You Told Me What I Didn't Want to Hear, Word, ©1996, page 38).
God is offering himself to you daily, and rate of exchange is fixed: your sins for his forgiveness, your hurt for his balm of healing, your sorrow for his joy. Give him your pain. Give him the guilt you feel, the heartaches that come to us all. They are part of living, but if you focus on Jesus Christ, he alone can ease your heartache. Then he uses us to dry the tears of others.
Why not do some "trading" of your own with the Lord? Do you have a load of grief that's gotten heavier with the hustle, bustle and painful memories of holidays? Exchange that burden for rest in Him this weekend.
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 (NASB)
