Friday Fun: Squirrel Wars

It's Friday--time for a grin. If you follow me on Facebook or my personal blog, you might notice some squirrely things---how I've discovered that squirrels hold a never ending grudge against me. All along I've felt it was undeserved! What did I ever do to a squirrel? I've always thought they were cute and sweet. But maybe they got hold of the following story. Uh-oh. I didn't write it, but they don't know that. I first posted it in 2011, and now that I think back.... perhaps this IS the start of my squirrel disturbances and their on-going battle with me!

Laughter is good medicine, and I hope this old squirrely church joke hope lights a smile in your world this weekend. Please feel free to send me your favorite jokes or funny stories to post on Fridays! ferree

Nuts About Squirrels!
(author unknown)

There were four country churches in a small Texas town--Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, Catholic-- and a Jewish Synagogue. Each church and Synagogue was overrun with pesky squirrels.

One day, the Presbyterian Church called a meeting to decide what to do about the squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they determined that the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will . .

In the Baptist Church the squirrels had taken up habitation in the baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a cover on the baptistery and drown the squirrels in it. The squirrels escaped somehow and there were twice as many there the next week.

The Methodist Church got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creation. So, they humanely trapped the squirrels and set them free a few miles outside of town. Three days later, the squirrels were back.

The Catholic Church came up with an effective solution: they baptized the squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter!

Not much was heard about the Jewish Synagogue, but they took one squirrel and had a short service with him called circumcision and they haven't seen a squirrel on the property since.

  1. This post is funny and really cute, Ferree! Actually I kind of like seeing the furry creatures even though they are considered rodents, and I hate other rodents. It sounds like you may be a bit overrun with squirrels in the south? Do you have a lot of them?

  2. I've always thought they were so cute too, Sharon. And it's not like I'm overrun, there's half a dozen or so and I have a big lot with lots of trees so there's plenty of room for us all. Maybe its because they know I'm from up north or because I'm a 'cat lady,' but every time I go outside they make a really disgusting noise like they're about to vomit! lol! And the most alarming thing was that I had a window box bird feeder and they were like army commandos shimmying across my window sills to get to it! They crack me up, but I swear they're out to get me! :)

  3. Sharon, they are the worlds cutest rodents! ♥ I don't mind them at all except when they get at the bird feeders and chase away my birds.

The squirrels seem to like Ferree. I heard she leaves out almost empty jars of peanut butter for them to play with. Oh and let's not forget her hide and seek games she plays with them. She leaves little nuts hidden around her yard and then sits with Elmer on the top of the couch and watches out the window as they seek.

Did you get your invitation to Ferree's party? It's an O.N.G.P. (Obsessive Nut Gathering Party) I'm not sure if I'm going...my gathering skills are not up to par. Maybe I'll just go towards the end when most of the nuts are gone. :D

    3. I really like this party idea, and the theme is great too. Now to tie it in with a Downton Abbey marathon. :)

    4. Now you're talking! I still haven't watched season 3! I'm going to have to start from the beginning I think. I have forgotten a lot of things. Can we watch all three seasons in one long weekend? Is that nuts or what? :D

    5. I'll bet we could! Better add up the hours and make sure the weekend is long enough. :)

  4. I don't know what kind of birds you are trying to attract, but my local hardware man said to use safflower seed for cardinals and other birds. He said safflower seed would not attract squirrels.

    1. Dear Sparrow, I have a video of the "Revival" scheduled to play here next Friday! :) I hope that's a case of 'great minds think alike,' and not Swans ONGP, although that song is definitely Nutty! :)
