Nuts About Squirrels!
(author unknown)
One day, the Presbyterian Church called a meeting to decide what to do about the squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they determined that the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will . .
In the Baptist Church the squirrels had taken up habitation in the baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a cover on the baptistery and drown the squirrels in it. The squirrels escaped somehow and there were twice as many there the next week.
The Methodist Church got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creation. So, they humanely trapped the squirrels and set them free a few miles outside of town. Three days later, the squirrels were back.
The Catholic Church came up with an effective solution: they baptized the squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter!
Not much was heard about the Jewish Synagogue, but they took one squirrel and had a short service with him called circumcision and they haven't seen a squirrel on the property since.
This post is funny and really cute, Ferree! Actually I kind of like seeing the furry creatures even though they are considered rodents, and I hate other rodents. It sounds like you may be a bit overrun with squirrels in the south? Do you have a lot of them?
ReplyDeleteI've always thought they were so cute too, Sharon. And it's not like I'm overrun, there's half a dozen or so and I have a big lot with lots of trees so there's plenty of room for us all. Maybe its because they know I'm from up north or because I'm a 'cat lady,' but every time I go outside they make a really disgusting noise like they're about to vomit! lol! And the most alarming thing was that I had a window box bird feeder and they were like army commandos shimmying across my window sills to get to it! They crack me up, but I swear they're out to get me! :)
ReplyDeleteSharon, they are the worlds cutest rodents! ♥ I don't mind them at all except when they get at the bird feeders and chase away my birds.
ReplyDeleteThe squirrels seem to like Ferree. I heard she leaves out almost empty jars of peanut butter for them to play with. Oh and let's not forget her hide and seek games she plays with them. She leaves little nuts hidden around her yard and then sits with Elmer on the top of the couch and watches out the window as they seek.
Did you get your invitation to Ferree's party? It's an O.N.G.P. (Obsessive Nut Gathering Party) I'm not sure if I'm going...my gathering skills are not up to par. Maybe I'll just go towards the end when most of the nuts are gone. :D
Oh my darling, You are the first on the invitation list! The party isn't for GATHERING nuts, its a gathering of NUTS like u! LOL! I love you Cathy! :)
DeleteWow! I'm so excited! I've never been picked first for anything before! :D
DeleteHow nutty is that?
I really like this party idea, and the theme is great too. Now to tie it in with a Downton Abbey marathon. :)
DeleteNow you're talking! I still haven't watched season 3! I'm going to have to start from the beginning I think. I have forgotten a lot of things. Can we watch all three seasons in one long weekend? Is that nuts or what? :D
DeleteI'll bet we could! Better add up the hours and make sure the weekend is long enough. :)
DeleteI don't know what kind of birds you are trying to attract, but my local hardware man said to use safflower seed for cardinals and other birds. He said safflower seed would not attract squirrels.
ReplyDeleteOH! Good to know! I've been getting mixtures with SUNflower seeds and the the squirrels adore them. I'll have to look for the safflower seeds. thanks!
DeleteThanks Sharon, that is good to know!

DeleteLove this story! Reminds me of the old song "Mississippi Squirrel Revival"!
ReplyDeleteDear Sparrow, I have a video of the "Revival" scheduled to play here next Friday! :) I hope that's a case of 'great minds think alike,' and not Swans ONGP, although that song is definitely Nutty! :)
DeleteSays the one who's going to throw the ONGP! :)
