So now is the perfect time to realize that if we can't do everything, maybe we can do something.
Last summer my widow friend Carol mentioned that she got her exercise through a TV show on NRB (National Religious Broadcasters). Several months later I decided that maybe TV exercise would work for me. Couldn't hurt to try, right? Plus, I liked the price---free!
I found an NRB station and a couple exercise shows, but I really enjoyed watching Faithful Workouts. I've posted a sample of it below (email readers go to the blog if the video doesn't show up).
I'll admit many times that's all I did--watch! "How'd they do all that" I wondered? I worried too much about doing it "right"---matching their right foot with my right foot!
Finally, one day I closed the blinds in my living room so no one could see in, pushed the coffee table out of the way (a workout right there!), and got a bottle of water handy. How embarrassing! All I could do was march in place through most of it. I did enjoy the punching part though! And after a few times of watching I realized it didn't matter if my right foot matched Michelle's. The important thing was that I was moving.
The GREAT thing was that I enjoyed it!
I've taken plenty of exercise classes in the past. I've wasted a lot of money on gym memberships and even that didn't motivate me. I hated everything I tried. They all lasted 60 grueling minutes. I was like a little kid on a trip---Are we there yet?... are we there yet?... WHEN WILL IT BE OVER?! I was bored out of my mind!
But this TV show is only 30 minutes! It was over and done with before Are we there yet could start to play in my head. Who knew exercise could be so simple?
Alas, a problem arose. We recently switched from satellite to cable tv, and now we don't get the NRB station. So I finally visited the Faithful Workouts website. I should have done that long ago! All sorts of helps and info on faith * fitness * and * fuel (diet). I ordered a beginner DVD, and will be marching in place with it real soon. Maybe someday I'll even get all the moves down.
What do you like to do for exercise?
♥ ferree
I have stairs with a banister & a total of 14 steps, one way.
ReplyDeletewhen I get the urge to work out I will walk up and
down the stairs about ten X's, that's a total of a
280 flight of stairs. It is really a workout and gets everything pumping.
Another thing I do is when I'm tense about something, ( I pray) & take a ten minute steamy shower and sip some hot tea.
And to think---some people go out and buy a stair-stepper! Great way to get your exercise. I like the suggestions for prayer, steam shower and hot tea too. It's so important we learn how to manage stress. thank you!
ReplyDeleteWow! I think I need a toned down old people's version of this. They have "Chair" yoga. Do you think they would have a "Chair" version? LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh, D---if I can do it, you can do it, haha! But the beautiful thing is if you find it on tv, NOBODY's watching you and you can make up your own chair version, YAY! :)
ReplyDeleteI walked all the way from the car parking lot and up and down several store aisles to find some chocolate and then walked all the way back out the car.
ReplyDeleteDoes that count? :(
I just checked out the Faithful Workouts web site. I started to read their blog there, there is a lot of good stuff there! I may consider the DVD...let me know how you like it.

Dear Swans, I'd have to do the math, but I need to know how many pounds of chocolate you were carrying. Walking and Weight-lifting combined are excellent exercise and so good for our bones! Keep it up! LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I never thought of that..I should add in some weight lifting to my routine! Thanks Ferree..you're the BEST!! lol ♥
DeleteI'll let you know. If you get the NRB channel you might be able to find the program too. All this talk about exercise... I think I might go for a little walk this morning. :)
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up Swans! :) Now I'll go walking with a smile on my face!
ReplyDeleteYes, but then your squirrels will wonder what you are up too.. :)
DeleteGotta keep those squirrels guessing and off balance :)
